Madden NFL 26 Drops PS4 And Xbox One, Adds Switch 2

EA officially announced Madden NFL 26 today, and this new entry brings the biggest platform-availability shake-up that the football game series has seen in years.

When Madden NFL 26 launches in August, it will only be on the current generation of consoles and PC. Nearly five years into the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S’s lifespan, EA has finally decided to drop the PS4 and Xbox One versions. 2013’s Madden NFL 25 was the first game in the series to release on PS4 and Xbox One, and every annual release in the series has been available on those platforms until this year.

Additionally, Madden NFL 26 will be the first game in the series to be released on Nintendo Switch 2. EA teased this during the Direct unveiling the console earlier this month, but we now have official confirmation. It’s the first Madden game to be released on a Nintendo platform since Madden NFL 13 in 2012. Considering Madden is one of the best-selling games every year, a shift in platform availability like this is significant.

College Football 26, which was announced alongside Madden NFL 26 and will launch on July 10, is currently only slated for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This was also the case with last year’s game.

Madden NFL 26 launches for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on August 14. You can gain access to the game early on August 11 if you buy the $100 Deluxe Edition. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, a $150 MVP Bundle is available, and it comes with College Football 26 Deluxe Edition.
