A Minecraft Movie has been one of 2025’s biggest success stories so far at the box office, so it’s no surprise that a sequel is reportedly in the works. Mike De Luca, one of the bosses at Warner Bros., has now commented on plans for a sequel.
He told Deadline that Warner Bros. is planning a sequel to A Minecraft Movie “imminently.” The same is true for a sequel to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, he said.
“The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently,” De Luca said.
A Minecraft Movie director Jared Hess told Deadline that making a sequel would be “so much fun,” adding that the world of Minecraft is “expansive” and leaves open plenty of possibilities for more stories.
“There were so many things that we didn’t tap into that we wanted to,” he said. “I would have a blast doing the sequel, and it seems like there’s already talk about it happening, so I’m super excited. It’ll be so much fun to go back into the world. The fans are just having such a good time. We teased it in the end credits, and the fans seem to be going wild for it.”
If a sequel is made, it could focus on the character Alex, who was teased at the end of the film. Alex would be joined by Jack Black’s character, Steve, in a potential sequel, Hess said.
A Minecraft Movie has made more than $550 million globally so far, cementing itself as the No. 2 highest-grossing video game movie of all time. It’s expected to climb higher still in the days and weeks ahead, but whether it can catch The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.3 billion) remains to be seen.
